The long-awaited digital edition of In the Forest of Forgetting, a collection of sixteen short stories by the impeccable Theodora Goss, who has been a finalist for the Nebula, Locus, Crawford, and Mythopoeic Awards, as well as on the Tiptree Award Honor List, and has won the World Fantasy and Rhysling Awards.

In the Forest of Forgetting was first published in 2006 by Prime Books. The Papaveria Press edition boasts the same cover artwork by the amazing Virginia Lee as appeared on the original edition, this time in its wonderful entirety, and Terri Windling has kindly given us permission to include her original introduction to the collection.

The table of contents has been slightly modified: “Phalaenopsis” has been replaced by “Her Mother’s Ghosts”, which first appeared in 2002 in Realms of Fantasy, and again in 2004 in The Rose and Twelve Petals and Other Stories, released by Small Beer Press.

See the full table of contents here.

You can read a review of the original edition of In the Forest of Forgetting on the Journal of Mythic Arts website where they said, among other things,

“Goss’ prose is elegant and lovely — these are literary tales with the charm of the European salon, but the wry wit of a contemporary author.”

The full-colour collection of Erzebet's bone panels, complete with the vignettes included with each piece of artwork.

The Dead Shore: Bone Art by Erzebet YellowBoy
DRM-free epub.

In the mid-2000s, author and artist Erzebet YellowBoy created a series of bone panels using bones found on the shore of a dying Nebraskan lake. Erzebet’s earliest memories are of collecting odd leaves, shells, pebbles and other bits of natural debris and creating strange images from their shapes. Her love of this childhood pleasure resulted in this collection of bone art that alludes to a place where ancient dreams unfold and strange creatures beckon. Here, presented for the first time in several years, is the full collection of those panels, complete with the vignettes included with each piece of artwork. This ebook contains twenty-three full-colour images of the bone panels, which now reside in private collections around the world.

With the exception of a brief visit to the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Erzebet YellowBoy is a self-taught artisan who creates strange assemblages out of natural ephemera and binds books by hand. Both of these are the result of a childhood suffused with story and magic—the elusive magic of fairy tales and of the more physical magic of wild nature. In the wooded garden behind her grandmother’s house Erzebet developed a deep appreciation of the ancient earth and the things that remain of seasons past. Her art is a means of communicating the understanding she has gained through the observation of and participation in the natural cycles of the land.

Cinderella Jump Rope Rhymes shows you what a childhood pastime looks like when you dial macabre up to eleven. If playground fun got married to the genetically engineered child of Joss Whedon and Neil Gaiman, their offspring would be Cinderella Jump Rope Rhymes. With contributions from Francesca Forrest, Sonya Taaffe, Samantha Henderson, Erik Amundsen, Rose Lemberg, Nadia Bulkin, Julia Rios, and Kyle Davis, and illustrations by Adam Oehlers, these are not the rhymes you jumped rope to as a child. Find out more about this CdF chapbook here.

Cinderella Jump Rope Rhymes is a Cabinet des Fées production. All proceeds will be used to support Cabinet des Fées and charities of its choice. For more information please visit Cabinet des Fées.

by C.S.E. Cooney.
Epub edition.

Jack Yap once had his mouth sewn shut for talking too much. His brother Pudding has to wear stone shoes or he’ll just wander off. Will little obstacles like these keep the boys out of trouble? Not for the twinkling of an eye. There is magic in the hills, shapechangers and monsters, and Jack Yap has a hankering to meet them all and maybe kill a few. What he and Pudding find in the hills, however, changes both their lives, taking them out of the country and into the cruel and wonderful world, where witches and princesses await. Sometimes they are even the same person.

The Winter Triptych is a story plucked from a tapestry’s thread. In one panel Liese is a scullery maid working in Queenskeep, where tragedy and treason have ruled for one hundred years. In the night, she chases ghosts up a winding stair. There, in another, Isele is a traitor’s hope, and here a huntsman seeks to unwind them from a curse’s knot. The panels flow together as the story unfolds, until ghosts and curses collide at the top of the Keep.

A primal collection of verse from the master of language, Hal Duncan, Songs for the Devil and Death touches the very heart of what it is to be a human in this most inhuman world. Here is deep grief. Here is red rage. Here is the genesis of pain, and an ecstasy to soothe it. Here are words that pare lies from truth, and damn all those who think otherwise.
